Mykonos

The small island of Mykonos has beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Mykonos Town (Hora) has a reputation for being the quintessential Cycladic village, with its maze of little alleyways framed by dazzlingly white-washed buildings. One of the most charming districts of Mykonos Town is Little Venice. Its picturesque, two and three storey colourful houses built right on the sea make for a wonderful atmosphere. Little Venice is the perfect place from which to view the sunset.The most interesting of other villages on the island is Ano Mera, eight km to the east of Mykonos Town. It’s another highly colourful Aegean village and has its own monastery. The monastery of Our Lady Tourliani is extensively decorated with beautiful wood carvings and has a valuable collection of ecclesiastical vessels and embroideries.

The white sandy beaches of Mykonos are said to be among the best in the Cyclades. There is a beach for every taste, from popular family beaches to the more “cosmopolitan" and nudist. Some good family beaches are: Platis Yialos; offers a variety of activities such as water-skiing, diving, and pedal boating. There is also a daily small boat transport from the Platis Yialos pier to all other south coast beaches of Paranga, Agrari, Elia, Paradise and Super Paradise. A regular bus service operates between the town and the beach; Ornos: situated approximately 3 km from Mykonos Town. The sandy beach slopes gently into the sea so it is perfect for families with small children. There are schools for water-skiing & surfing. The popular film “Shirley Valentine” was filmed only a few kilometres away from here at Agios Ioannis.

For the more lively crowd there are Paradise and Super Paradise Beach: catering for a younger audience there are big, well-organised camp sites and when the sun goes down the lively bars get into full swing with electronica, techno music, and parties.
